Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals

Channel 4 and Fresh One were looking at developing a second screen mobile companion app for their television show. hedgehog lab was chosen as the preferred post-PC partner to work with them.

With 12 weeks to go to the launch of Jamie Oliver’s biggest television series 15-Minute Meals, Channel 4 came to us with a challenge to architect, design and build a fully working iOS app for iPad & iPhones within this timescale.

Since this was one of the earliest apps built for a retina iPad device, we faced completely new challenges with scroll performance when browsing recipes. Using retina quality images slowed the app down considerably in the initial stages and we had to figure out a series of optimisations that helped us deliver the ability to deliver great experiences in future apps that used a lot of media for customers like Booths.

We're excited by this app as, true to Jamie Oliver's philosophy, it encourages more people to get cooking. This app is certain to be the perfect accompaniment to the new Jamie's 15-Minute Meals series and book. The easy-to-download meal videos bring the series to life and we hope will inspire people to take the app into their kitchen.
