Recognising Mental Health Awareness Week all Month Long 💚

The 13th-19th of May saw companies across the UK celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week, and here at hedgehog lab, we went all out to celebrate our mental well-being and educate our teams on mental health issues all month long.

For the past few weeks, we have revelled in a jam-packed calendar of DEI activities, insightful talks from our wonderful guest speakers, and opportunities to get mindful. Why? At hedgehog lab, we prioritise our well-being and social initiatives, putting our mental health first and creating safe spaces to share, always.

The Lineup 🎤

We kicked things off on May 9th with Calvin Benton the founder of Spill. We partner with Spill to provide free anonymous therapy & mental health support services for all of our employees regardless of employment status or location through a Slack integrated app. Calvin dropped in to provide a refresher chat on their amazing platform and how it can benefit us all at the lab.

Then, on May 30th, John Sadler, Customer Success Manager at Bippit gave us the 411 on their financial wellbeing services. Another benefit we provide at hedgehog lab, Bippit is a financial coaching platform, providing impartial and anonymous advice to our employees on finances & their financial wellbeing.

The Rainbow Hogs took the stage 🏳️‍🌈

At hedgehog lab, we prioritise the wellbeing of our team through our work on inclusion & belonging. We believe that having diversity within our team allows us to foster an inclusive culture that pins belonging and well-being at the centre of what we do. One way in which we do this is by supporting organic employee-led initiatives like our Rainbow Hogs. Rainbow Hogs is our dedicated group for those in the LGBTQ+ community and their allies, focusing on belonging, acceptance, acknowledgment, celebration, and inclusion.

On May 17th, we recognised the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia with our fabulous Rainbow Hogs hosting their first-ever workshop- to great success. During the workshop, we dove deep into all things Pride, challenged assumptions and considered how we could continue being allies here at hedgehog lab to elevate the LGBTQ+ experience.

Did someone say Paint and Non-Alcoholic Sip? Yes, Please! 🎨

You know what they say – a little art therapy never hurt anybody. On June 6th, we rounded off our mindful celebrations with an Ask Me Anything with our CFO, Ryan Scaife, followed by a paint and non-alcoholic sip social event hosted across both our offices in Newcastle & York.

Ryan shared with us the weirdest expense he’s ever had to approve, his fave meal deal, and the spreadsheet he’s most proud of!

Then, canvases were prepared, creative, and fruit juices began to flow, as we sipped on delicious drinks and indulged in sweet treats while unleashing our inner Picassos.

And why keep the celebrations to just May? 🗓️

In the coming month, we have even more for our team to get involved in. On June 27th, we will be hearing from Gavin Elliot, Chief Design Officer at ScrumConnect Consulting, who will be sharing his story on impostor syndrome. Then, on 11th July, we will be joined by Jack Williams of Lil Life Coaching to go over motivation & positivity.

We certainly embarked on a journey this Mental Health Awareness Week,  with a mindful marathon of well-being initiatives, guest speakers, and rainbows galore.
