hedgehog lab are proud of the culture they have built across global offices and it’s all thanks to the amazing team. This meet the team series has been curated by one of our newest team members, Kathryn Wharton.

Meet the team: Jack Mercer

Hello, I'm Jack and I joined the hedgehog lab design team 2 years ago after graduating with a degree in Interaction Design from Northumbria University. I have great versatility across a wide range of design software but regularly use Sketch and Principle to meet our client’s brief. I particularly likes Principle, a prototyping software, because it allows me to showcase my talent with animations and transitions to clients.

My favourite part of the job is working on application design and being involved from the initial brief to presenting back to clients in pitch meetings. I've worked on an array of projects with high profile clients however, my favourite one to date was supporting the proposal for pizza giants, Dominos. The quick fire brief they provided allowed me to showcase my creativity and agile way of working.

hedgehog lab are strong advocates for supporting new talent and have strong relationships with our local universities, colleges and schools. I first met Ray Clarke, our Head of Design during my second year at university when he facilitated mock interviews, reviewed portfolios and offered career tips. Towards the end of my third year after impressing Ray,  I was invited to take part in a competitive interview process and was offered my first role at hedgehog lab.

My interest in design emerged in my early teens and I was able to shadow my brother who worked as a graphic designer. Myself, along with the rest of the design team, supports TICE which aims to raise the aspirations of local school children by getting professionals to talk to them about their careers and what their job entails.

My career aspiration would be to follow in the footsteps of a former colleague and mentor and feature in the BIMA100. When I reflect on my hard work and dedication, and the skills I have developed at hedgehog lab this achievement feels like it is within my reach.

For any aspiring designers out there I'd recommend Pinterest as a great place for idea generation and Dribbble for aesthetic design inspiration.
