hedgehog lab is excited to be involved in Digital Day‚ an educational initiative run on an annual basis by the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA). We have been selected as the Digital Day Lead for the initiative in Newcastle and the North East‚ which will be held on November 15th.

The objective behind BIMA’s Digital Day initiative is to raise awareness amongst students aged 13-16 years about the amazing career opportunities in the digital sector‚ spanning a whole range of skills beyond technical capabilities.

The highly creative digital sector has demonstrated remarkable growth in recent years‚ contributing 6 percent of the UK’s GDP‚ employing around 2.5 million people and exporting to the tune of £17 billion per annum.

Out of these jobs‚ an impressive 1.5 million are attributed to creative industries or creative roles‚ making up 5.1 percent of employees in the UK. Most interestingly‚ a huge percentage of these creatives are under 30.

These figures inspire BIMA to capture and harness young talent at an early stage‚ by creating awareness about the various career paths and opportunities that the Digital Sector has to offer.

As a partner of the BIMA Digital Day initiative‚ hedgehog lab will be recruiting local schools and digital professionals. Each school will be matched with an industry professional; on the morning of the event‚ they will deliver a presentation about agency life.

In the afternoon‚ students will complete 1 of 3 challenges‚ set by the sponsors. Once completed‚ the best entries will be submitted into a nationwide competition‚ where students will be in with the chance of winning one of the fantastic prizes up for grabs. Last year‚ these included cash and gift vouchers‚ as well as non-financial prizes like the opportunity to visit digital agencies and software companies.

The whole day aims to engage students with industry professionals‚ and understand what it takes to be part of a digital agency‚ while encouraging them to consider jobs in the digital market. We can’t wait for the event‚ and hope all the participants will have lots of fun along the way.
